Reverend Jimyo Lisa Ferworn Bio:

Rev. Jimyo Lisa Ferworn has been a practicing Buddhist since 2000.  She originally trained from 2001- 2005 under Rev. Jion Prosser in the Japanese Tendai Tradition, with her practice emphasis on Japanese Vajrayana.  She took Shukke Tokudo (full ordination) at the Tendai Mission in Honolulu, Hawaii on July 2, 2005.

With a desire to learn the Zen tradition in a manner which can be translated within America, Rev. Jimyo joined the Ann Arbor Zen Temple in 2006 which is lead by Rev. Haju Linda Murray. The Ann Arbor Zen Temple is an affiliate temple of the Buddhist Society for Compassionate Wisdom which is under the Spiritual direction of Venerable Samu Sunim in Toronto, Ontario.  Jimyo is completing the seminary requirements for a  Zen Dharma Teacher under the Maitreya Buddhist Seminary, and conducts the afternoon services at the Ann Arbor Temple monthly.

It is Reverend Jimyo’s aspiration to be able to build a Kalamazoo Buddhist community that can explore the ways that Zen Buddhist Practice can become a part of all aspects of one’s life, both on and of the meditation cushion.  Korean Zen practices offer a rich breadth of practice, and it is her hope that she can share this with others.  Zen practices, including meditation, chanting, prostrations, work practice and all practices with a goal of inspiring direct experience of our Buddhist nature; all are designed to help us embrace the Buddha nature we already have. Practice enables us to see the hint of light which is our Buddha nature, and develop the wisdom to blow the clouds of delusion away that obscure this nature from our awareness.

May all beings find peace.

May all beings find happiness.

May all beings attain enlightenment.
