Rev. Jimyo Lisa Ferworn has been a practicing Buddhist since 2000. She originally trained from 2001-2005 under Rev. Jion Prosser in the Japanese Tendai Tradition, with her practice emphasis on Japanese Vajrayana. She took Shukke Tokudo (full ordination) at the Tendai Mission in Honolulu, Hawaii on July 2, 2005.
In addition to her training in Japanese Tendai, Jimyo trained for 3 years at the Maitreya Buddhist Seminary at the Zen Temple in Ann Arbor, Michigan, under Rev. Haju Linda Murray. This provided additional training in the Zen Korean lineage and gave her a practical background in how an American Sangha is organized and services designed and perfromed. Reverand Jimyo conducted the evening services at the Ann Arbor Temple once per month for over 2 years.
Rev. Jimyo is currently serving as Board Treasurer and Buddhist Clergy of the Kalamazoo Sambodh Center for Human Excellence, which is devoted to sharing Indias heritage of spiritual wisdom and meditative practices through Swami Bodhananda Saraswati. Rev. Jimyo offers monthly Buddhist chanting and meditation services, as well as periodically performing Buddhist rituals, talks on Buddhist topics, training in Buddhist meditation and other workshops. Proficient in chanting practices, she assists as one of the 2 lead chanters that support Swami Bodhananda in the annual mantra Sadhana held at the Sambodh center. She has participated in Buddhist Chaplaincy services and has performed Buddhist funeral rites of passage when called upon.
It is Reverend Jimyo's hope to bring meditation, Buddha's teachings, and chanting practices to all who desire to add more peace and compassion into their life.
